Located in the heart of the Red City, Majorelle Gardens is one of the finest green spaces in Marrakesh. Founded in 1947 by Jacques Majorelle, an artist who arrived in Morocco in 1919. After his death, Pierre Bergé and Yves Saint Laurent purchased the gardens. Because of them, it's still possible to enjoy the gardens here. Today, the garden is home to plants from all five continents, in keeping with the Majorelle tradition. Bamboo, palm trees, cactus, potted flowers and water plants are found on these well-maintained grounds that continue to impress visitors. A calm space, dedicated to the renaissance thanks to the soothing plants, also provides a great example of Franco-Moroccan architecture, showing the historical marriage of the two cultures. This calmness is accented by the Majorelle blue, known to be a soothing colour, enchanted by this small exclusive realm of well-being. This blue is in fact clearly present throughout the park. The main building is painted blue. Inside is the Museum of Islamic Art where Pierre Bergé and Yves Saint Laurent have carefully selected several pieces of Islamic art from North Africa, Asia and the East. And fountains and pools throughout the park provide a place for water plants to bloom and grow, like the abundance of water lillies.
