When youth and the Kingdom are celebrated....

Culture

SUN FESTIVAL From July 7 to 17, 2011, art and youth will be showcased in Marrakech. On the occasion of Youth Day and Throne Day, young artists from Sun Festival will take to various areas of the city and provide tourists and Marrakchis with an original show and rhythm, for the fourth consecutive year.

When youth and the Kingdom are celebrated....

Appreciating art in all its forms

Aznail Mounir, president of the MarocKʼJeune assocation, aptly sums up the summer festival as, “a festival by youth, for youth, and in a youthful spirit.”

The goal of the event?  To celebrate modern Morocco, the Kingdom where youth express themselves through art, in all forms.  Photography, Deejin, concerts, conferences, workshops, exhibitions, city tours and even homages to the artists.  Above all, the Sun Festival aims to be an event where everyone and every art has a place and can appreciate the richness of Moroccan culture.

From hip-hop to rock fusion, and gnawa sounds, each day the public take in the sounds of live music. And for those who’d like to try their hand at what they see on stage, workshops will be set up.  Become a DJ for a day or get some photography tips from young professionals.

Fourth edition, full of new additions

Since it began, the Sun Festival has seen increasing attendance, summer after summer, more and more people are coming out, curious to discover what young Moroccans are up to on the arts front.  Or even just to try their hand and explore their own talent.

This year, event organizers have gone even father to offer an even better festival: giant 32 m² LED screens have been installed at Place du 16 November to allow spectators to appreciate the show from near and far.

All the shows will be filmed and shared online on Sun Fest TV.  The giant screen will also show a photo competition organized throughout the 10-day cultural event.  Each day, photos submitted to the competition by a participant taken throughout the festival will appear on the screen in time for the concert.

Other surprises are also planned during the 10-day festival.

So despite the heat, the youth are inviting visitors to participate in the Sun Festival, where good times and a joyful atmosphere are in order. A unique celebration for a country celebrating its rich culture.  Between modern and traditional, the Sun Festival is an ideal opportunity to  time to get together around, at an original art festival!
