A Moroccan in Cannes

For the 65th Cannes Film Festival, from the 16th to 27th of May 2012, the latest Moroccan movie “Les Cheveux de Dieu” is competing in the category “Un certain regard”. This film tackles the subject of the Casablanca bombings in May 2003, competing with sixteen other films; “Les Cheveux de Dieu” is an adaptation of the novel by Mahi Binebine, “Les Etoiles de Sidi Moumem”. It required a budget of 3 million and was filmed in Casablanca and Fez.

Sarkozy on vacation

After the handover of power last Tuesday, Nicolas Sarkozy, is expected to be arriving in our beautiful city of Marrakech, in the coming few days. The now ex-president will come to rest in the sun with his wife, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy and their daughter Julia. According to several sources, the couple is expected to remain for a few weeks in Marrakech, the time for the former first lady to complete her next album.

Solar Salon

Building on the success of the first edition, the show solar expo will once again be organized in 2013. The purpose of the fair is to promote solar energy in Morocco and allow professionals and visitors to learn about renewable energy and solar energy.

Good joke

The Marrakech store chain “Nicolas”, a specialty retailer of wine, changed the institutions name from “Nicolas” to “Francis”, a small joke in reference to the results of the French presidential election.

New lounge

The Es Saadi Casino opens its terrace in a lounge atmosphere, where customers can have a drink while enjoying the beautiful Marrakech nights.

Marrakech in the U.S.

The women’s Council of the French Alliance of Chicago hosted a gala “Magic of Morocco” in the city of Illinois, in tribute to the beauty of the gardens of Marrakech. A room of the grand Palace was decorated like Garden Majorelle, with a souk and beautiful fountain. Moroccan cuisine was served, Moroccan music by the Stu Hirsh Orchestra was performed, all led by Bill Kurtis and his wife Donna LaPietra.

Green Day

On May 20th, students association,  AIESEC Marrakech, will organize an environmental day called “The Green Stamp”. In collaboration with Darlink and Pizzorno, the purpose of this day is to raise awareness of the Medina, on the importance of sorting waste and its positive impact on health and civic life. It is also an opportunity for the public to become aware of the environmental future of Marrakech and the importance of sorting waste.

 Top Chef!

Newly formed Association of Chiefs of Marrakech, which brings together the heads of most parts of the city, elected as it’s head, chief executive of the Es Saadi, who officiates at the Cour des Lions. The role of the association is to promote exchanges between the various stakeholders in Morocco and to improve the relationship between leaders and share their experiences with students.
