Election

Nicolas Sarkozy( UMP) topped the first round of elections in Morocco with 36.72%, the president is ahead in the first round. In second, Francois Hollande with 35.93% and in third ranking is Jean-Luc Melanchon with 12.39%. The second round between Nicolas Sarkozy and Francis Holland will be on Sunday 6th of May.

Cinema

German director Caroline Link, shot some scenes for her upcoming movie “ Exit” in Marrakech, including Marrakech-Menara airport. The cities original architecture is what led the filmmaker to choose Marrakech. The shooting lasted over three hours.

Marrakech Laughter

Two new headliners have been announced for this second edition on June 6th to the 10th, Rachid Badouri and Redouane Harjane, other names will be announced in the coming days

Art

The third edition of the Marrakech Art Fair, scheduled for October 2012, may be postponed until 2013, due to changes in the organization team. The writer Simon Njami is the artistic director of the event.

Oukaimeden

Emaar Morocco society has suspended its expansion project, Oukaimeden, for now. A golf course, hotels and residences were to be created at a cost of 11 billion dirhams, the economic crisis is thought to be the reason behind the decision.
