Une femme grande favorite pour être maire
Online on 22 June 2009 | About the city
SOCIETY A Councillor elected on 12 June 2009, should become the day (22.06.2009) the first woman mayor of Marrakech, according to the staff of political training, authenticity and modernity party (WFP, liberal).
Ms. Mansouri would thus become the second woman mayor in the history of the Morocco after Asmaa Chaâbi, who presided, between 2003 and this year, Mayor of Essaouira, located within 200 km to the West of Marrakech.
"We are convinced that Ms. Mansuri will be elected Mayor of Marrakech, because she enjoys broad support," said Sheikh Mohamed Biyadillah. The candidate of the WFP should take advantage of the opposition of some 80 Councillors of various political tendencies to the re-election of Mayor outgoing Omar Jazouli.
Born in 1976, Ms. Mansouri is a lawyer trained in France. She is the daughter of a former (Deputy Reeve) Pasha of Marrakech.
For recall, WFP has won the municipal elections on June 12 with the 27.795 6.015 seats to be filled, or 21.7% of the votes cast.
It surpassed the Istiqlal, the (nationalist) party of Prime Minister Abbas El Fassi (5.292 seats) and the National gathering of the independent (NIR/4.112).
