NEWS More Green taxis are arriving in Marrakech, What will it change? The quality service, comfort, safety, speed and reliability of the green taxis will convince you to abandon the usual ones.
No more dirty taxis, no more drivers trying to rip you off, no more waiting for a taxi who promises to come at 3pm and doesn't show, the green taxis have arrived. Started in Casablanca in 2008, from the first day the company has been successful, and now just over three years later, they recieve 10,000 call per day in the economic capital. The way they operate is simple and similar to taxi firms in Europe, a call centre handles customer enquiries and bookings and an available driver arrives on time, taking you where ever you need to go. Green taxis are easily spotted by the sticker on the rear window and the clean condition of the car. The drivers known the city very well and are happy with their work, ' it is a source of pride because it's a green taxi', said one driver.
The concept comes from Belgium, now a success story, the arrival of the company in Morocco is due to two reasons. The market for taxis and the fact that the creator behind the company is from Morocco. In Casablanca, finding a taxi is a challenge and due to the rise in tourism in Marrakech, this is the market the green taxi will be aimed at. There are 30 large and 10 small taxis in the city, they can go to airports, trainstations, other cities, golf course and more for a set fee of 2.20 dh per km. The only obsticale is the city congestion that slows the taxis down. The usual taxi rates are 10 dh during the day and 15 dh at night, the company operates seven days a week, 24 hours a day, even on holidays. The company is set to expand to Fes and offer accessible services to customers with disabilities. The excellent idea will be widely available and seen everywhere in a matter of months, meanwhile green taxis are rushing around every street in Casablanca flooded with requests, this isn't the last we hear of the green taxis!
