TOURISM It is on the sidelines of the Euro-Mediterranean Ministerial Conference that should be signed in Marrakech, a comprehensive air agreement with the European Union.
This agreement, which should result in a liberalisation of the air between the Morocco and the countries of the European Union, is the culmination of a year of reflection. Indeed, the decision to liberalize air transport was taken at the foundations of Tourism held in Agadir. A study on the impact of trade liberalization was carried out by the Department.
In February 2004, on the margins of the foundations of Casablanca, a new strategy had been decided. It needed more aircraft come to the Morocco without to much precipitation, and in safeguarding achievements, but also by increasing the flow of travellers. One solution was therefore: liberalize without prevaricating. Sources close to the Department of transport contend that from the outset the choice was clear, that there would be no progressive liberalization.
It was the credibility of the Vision 2010. Negotiations with the European Union then started in December 2004.
The first step in this direction is materialized by the liberalisation of regular transport. Thus, the Corsair company for example was allowed to operate regular flights from Marrakech to Paris. Now, with the agreement that will be initialled, the Morocco open its airports to European companies so that they serve the cities of the European Union without limitation of nationality or ability.
However, the Moroccan negotiators succeeded in having the same thing for the RAM which may, under the fifth freedom, make a Casa-Paris but also a Paris-London, once the plane arrived from Casablanca airport. Thus, it is a market of 400 million passengers for the national company. Precisely, the RAM should focus more on the Casablanca hub and let other trades, such as the charter and low cost to others.
With the Open Sky, the Morocco which is the first country to signing this kind of agreement, will not suffer the liberalisation of air transport but will instead join him in a serene and thoughtful manner.
