SOCIETY Responding to a recent article in the daily 'Ettajdid', the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs categorically denied any allegation on the closure of the mosque Lemnabha, Marrakech. A matter that is the product of the imagination. This is what ALM told officials at the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs, in response to allegations recently published in the daily 'Ettajdid' on 'the closure of the Lemnabha mosque', situated in the centre of the old Medina of Marrakech.

In the article in question, published in the Thursday Edition, the author, who cites the Al Qasba District residents, says that "the local authorities had intervened on 24 September last to prevent worshippers to pursue their prayers in the mosque". He added that "this mosque had been closed by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs under the pressure of a foreign resident who lives in a house in front of the mosque".

An allegation vigorously denied by an official delegation of the Department concerned in Marrakech, which States that there was never question of closure of the mosque or complaints that whatsoever with the authorities. "There was just a wall in the mosque which was threatening to collapse, exposing to danger the lives of the faithful and the people surrounding this mosque." "We decided to restore it to guard against any danger," explains a Manager to the delegation of the Ministry in Marrakech to ALM. The Department had made a call for tenders for the restoration of the damaged mosque; the bid was opened on 22 August and has been awarded to a company specialized in the field who will be "as soon as possible" to the rehabilitation of the mosque, specify sources authorized Department of trusteeship. If acting Foreign lady who would be "indisposée" by the noise produced by the speaker of the mosque, "there is nothing", said an official in the wilaya of Marrakech.

In affirming that this lady was actually a house opposite the mosque, he said however that the wilaya services have at no time registered a complaint on his part to protest against a "noise" that would cause the speaker of the mosque.

The same source has revealed that, in response to previous articles, this foreign resident in question went herself to the wilaya of Marrakech to clarify that she "never felt or experienced any inconvenience because of the proximity of the riad of the mosque". "I was delighted, even pleased, intermixed with a place of Muslim worship", have entrusted to the authorities of the ochre city.

The clarification provided by the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs are intended to "clear a case that was created from scratch", insists the Department concerned. "At a time where the Morocco built mosques one after another, and each day that is God, how can we explain that it closes today a place of worship as imposing as that of the old Medina of Marrakech," asked an official at the Ministry of supervision. A case of pure heresy", he concluded by inviting the party which has been behind the release of this"rumor"to much overlap its information.
