CULTURE "Walk", that is the theme of the fifth edition of the international festival of contemporary dance in Marrakech, which will be held from 23 to 30 January at the theatre Dar Takafa Daoudiates, at the French Institute of Marrakech, at the higher school of Visual arts, to the Jama El Fna Place, instead of November 16 and at the place Ben Toumert.

Initiated by dancer and choreographer Taoufiq Izzediou, this festival has acquired an international reputation with fans of contemporary dance. Each evening, the House of Culture will host two shows and public spaces will accommodate entertainment Street and improvisations. Hundreds of Moroccan and foreign artists participate.

Moroccan artists will present their latest creations, with the hope to find professionals. In the absence of a market for contemporary dance at the Morocco, the Moroccan dancers often dream to go abroad to get internships, residencies, or aid in the creation.

Foreign artists will come from France, Spain, Belgium, Tunisia, Chad, India, Sweden, Norway and Lebanon. "All the artists, be they Moroccan or foreign agreed to occur without compensation," noted Izzediou, who admits having a few problems at the level of the budget. As in previous editions, the concept "Dance for food" is developed.

Thus, a dozen families of Marrakech will open the doors of their homes to accommodate troops of dancers and invite them to lunch. After the show of dance, everyone moves to table in a friendly atmosphere. Follow then discussions and debates on topics related to contemporary dance. "I have launched this idea, which materialized and has worked well since many families call us to participate." "The concept even extended to the international where similar operations prepare in Latin America and the Portugal", says Izzediou.

The "Dance to the apart" concept will be also developed with performances in apartments. Initially, the idea germinated because of the lack of spaces reserved for the dancers.

Side budget, organizers found some difficulties. The Ministry of Culture, which had insured the remuneration of the Moroccan artists in the previous three editions, closed the valves this year. Private companies are not related to the event, finding insufficient public. Fortunately, the Embassy of France supports the dancers. Please note that all shows are free, the objective is to attract the largest number art little developed in the Morocco.
