CULTURE A Homml' opportunity publication, Éditions Tarik, of the work of Nicole of Pontcharra "Mademoiselle Masson: letters to a young man", the French Institute of Marrakech organises, on 13 February 2010, a day of tribute to Denise Masson.
17: 00, At the library of the Institute, Nicole of Pontcharra will be invited to a meeting devoted to his book signing.
19 H, a reading of the book, space by Fred Cacheux and interpreted by Michèle Foucher and himself, will be presented in the theatre of the French Institute.
Denise Masson (1901-1994), known for his translation of the Koran, was one of the compelling figures of the international cultural life of Marrakech at the time, bringing together around her artists, intellectuals, theologians and illustrious visitors.
His home, a riad in the Medina of Marrakech, and bequeathed to the French State, is now administered by the French Institute. It welcomes artists in residence at creation and some events open to the public as the cycle of the Arts in the Riad, the international symposia conferences and introductory arts workshops.
The Riad Denise Masson is also the seat of the "national competition for the new black of Marrakech", created by the French Institute in 2007.
Nicole of Pontcharra, writer, poet and Russian art critic, published to this day a dozen books, France and the Morocco. By initiating travel and meetings of poets and artists of the Arab world and Europe, it strives to create bridges between the languages and cultures. From 1945 to 1955, she lived in Marrakech where she had the opportunity to Denise Masson.
At the request of the French Institute of Marrakech, and with the assistance of the foundation of France and the Service of cooperation and cultural Action of the Embassy of France in the Morocco, she wrote, in residence at the Riad Denise Masson, the first book devoted to "the Lady of Marrakech. This work of fiction consists of correspondence exchanges between Denise Masson and his young confidant Sufi, Marcus, in which the French scholar out of its austere reserve and épanche on its spiritual questions, his courageous political positions and his taste for art.
