TOURISM The number of tourist arrivals in hotels classified in the city of Marrakech has reached 1.559.832 during the year 2007, against 1.537.290 in the previous year, i.e. an increase of 4%, indicates a report of the Regional Council of tourism (TRC) of Marrakech.

The nights were established in 5.950.409, 5% increase from the year 2006, added the same source, pointing out that this increase is to be mainly of the good performance by the British markets (+ 59%), German (+ 26%), Italian (+ 5%) and Belgium (+ 2%), which represent 89% of the total of the additional nights generated by this growth.

Occupancy reached 66% in regression of two points average achieved during 2006.

Hotels classified 2, 3 and 5 stars, as well as the tourist residences have accumulated positive in terms of nights, with respectively + 50, + 31 + 3 and + 2%, while the hotels 4 stars and the villages of tourist holiday (VVT) accused declines of 7% and 8% respectively.

More than 14 new tourism projects, progress in Marrakech, will contribute to the achievement of the objective to equip the ochre city, whose total capacity is, currently, of 38.780 beds, of 21.460 additional beds by 2010.
