SOCIETY The Pan-African Organisation (OPALS) AIDS pleaded Saturday in Marrakech for the adoption of the measures necessary for the improvement of the Moroccan women's reproductive health indicators.
Speaking at a regional meeting on "reproductive health and AIDS prevention: the role of the municipal Adviser", Nadia Bezad, President of the Opals, indicated that maternal morbidity rate is part of the more shocking indicators, with almost 3 deaths in layer per day, insisting on raising awareness of the communal and parliamentary advisors and encourage them to join efforts improving the reproductive health of women at the level of each region.
"If we can ensure the Moroccan woman the opportunity to enjoy all the health and physical rights and ensure real support pregnant women to reduce their death", she said.
For their part, stakeholders expressed concern the negative indicators of reproductive health of Moroccan women, arguing for the realization of its unconditional right of access to care, access to quality health services and improve reproductive health.
They have highlighted also the important role that communal and parliamentary advisors can play at the regional level to combat deaths of pregnant mothers, to improve their reproductive health and to immunize them against sexually transmitted infections.
According to Ms. Bezad figures on this occasion, on a total of 100,000 births annually, the number of deaths totaled 227, while in rural areas, this rate is still important with 267 per 100,000 births.
Regarding the Infections sexually transmitted infections (STIs), the same source indicates that 600,000 new infections are registered annually, including the most vulnerable women in the biological and social.
On the other hand, the number of cases of breast cancer rises to 5.260 cases per year, while those of the cervix are 2.010 cases per year according to the 2004 Casablanca cancer registry.
